HISTORICAL SIGHTSEEING AND SOUTH BEACHES

Beginning in the morning at the hotels in Ponta Negra, the tour proceeds along the Coastal Highway to the city beaches and to the Fortaleza dos Reis Magos, where there’s a short stop to visit the fortress. After driving through the districts of Santos Reis, Rocas and Ribeira – where the town began –, the city centre and cathedral, we visit the craft centre to browse and buy souvenirs. Morro do Careca (―Bald Hill‖) in Ponta Negra on the edge of Natal can be saw on the way to the beach of Pirangi, 24 km away, where we’ll visit the largest cashew tree in the world and bathe in the warm and calm waters.

NATAL BY NIGHT

By noon, we'll visit some places where we can enjoy the traditional forró, typical dance from the northeast of Brazil; professional local dancers won't leave anyone stoped. The 'repentista' or 'embolador de coco' is a popular potiguar music representation, and it is well known as Cantorio Potiguar. He presents a humoristic and an amusing show.

NORTH SHORE

A full-day excursion through the beaches of Redinha, Santa Rita, Genipabu, Barra do Rio, Graçandu and Pitangui to Jacumã. On the way, we climb the famous dunes of Genipabu, where the most exciting part of the trip takes place: buggy riding through the dunes, stopping at three great freshwater lagoons — Genipabu, Pitangui and Jacumã. There’s time for bathing in a location with bar and leisure facilities, such as sand tobogganing.

MARACAJAÚ

70 km from Natal, Maracajaú is known as the ―Brazilian Caribbean‖ and offers all then excitement and natural beauty of a beach untouched by urbanisation. A great attraction is diving in the parrachos — 3 metre-deep reef formations that cover 15 square km about 7 km offshore. The facilities include floats that encourage even the least experienced. There’s free time for lunch.

PIPA

Leaving the hotels in the morning and following the BR 101 highway, after 90 km we reach the municipality of Tibau do Sul and one of the coast’s most charming spots – the beach of Pipa. Considered to be one of Brazil’s ten most beautiful beaches, there are cliffs where part of the Atlantic Rainforest is preserved, overlooking a chain of coves. We will visit the beach of Cacimbinhas and the village of Pipa and its stores, with a stop for bathing. The beaches of Amor and Baía dos Golfinhos (―Dolphin Bay‖) can be reached by walking along the seafront, tide permitting.

CUNHAÚ

After breakfast, we take the BR 101 highway for 90 km to Capela dos Mártires de Cunhaú, a chapel built in tribute to the only Brazilians ever to be made saints by the Catholic Church. Following this brief stop, visitors are taken up the estuary of the River Cunhaú, where shrimp farms can be seen, then to the beach of Cunhaú. This pleasant spot, with tide pools at the confluence of river and sea, has excellent cuisine. The tour finishes with a boat trip on the River Cunhaú to see the mangroves where local fishermen catch crabs and enchanting mini-beaches appear at low tide.
